NASHVILLE (WordNews.org) Dec. 17, 2011 –A few years ago, Christian singer Mark Schultz was found letters his great grandmother had stored in her attic, stories of three scared sons in World War II to their mother.
He knew he had the makings of a song.

That song, “Letters from War,” resonates with servicemen and woman. [Click here for a video]

“It honors those who served,” Mark told WordNews.org.

The Army called and said it wanted to make a video based on the song, Mark told Streetdate. Since the song’s release, he’s performed at the Pentagon and had a  tour on Army bases.

Then he received a call from a general to play Lakeland Air Force base in San Antonio, Texas.

“Ninety-seven percent of the men who came to this have never stepped into a church before,” Mark said. “They had never heard the song before. They fell in love with the song.”

Then he started hearing from the men.

“This changed me. I want to know more.”

That’s what led to the book, “Letters from War.”

“I wrote the book about a mom whose son is in Afghanistan who’s walking this faith journey.

The opening line grabs you.

“The soldier wrestles to write the words he knows will be his last.”

“It’s a special book,” Mark said. He credits co-author Travis Thrasher with doing “a lot of the heavy lifting.”

“I’m good at telling stories life. We used the things we are best at and talked it through,” Mark said.

Are more books planned?

“Maybe,” he said. “It depends on if I have something. I love writing songs. If it’s something that needs to be expressed in more than three and a half minutes, I’ll write a book.”
