Saturdays with Sandi Patty: Entering a new season (Part 2 in a series)

VANCOUVER, Wash. (WordNews.org) April 7, 2012 — Christian recording artist Sandi Patty says she’s entering a new season of life when things just matter more.
“After having been in this business for these many years, I think that at this season in my life—I’m 55—things just matter more to me.”
Sandi  has been reconnecting with fans in smaller, more intimate venues such as churches, where people can speak with the five-time Grammy winner face-to-face.
“ I don’t take for granted some of the things people say,” she told WordNews.org. “I don’t think I took it for granted before, but I think I really pay attention. It just matters to me, the kindness that [fans] extend. It just means a great deal.”
One season that is ending is that hands-on role of mom.
“It seemed like the only season that I had experienced forever and forever is raising children,” she said. “My husband and I, we have eight kids between us and so we spent a lot of time raising kids. That’s just what my life was really focused around.”
But now her youngest is 16 and driving. She said she doesn’t have to plan her day around dentist appointments and baseball practices.
“He drives himself pretty much wherever he goes now,” she said.
Sandi notes, however, that once a parent, always a parent. Whether your kids like it or not, she said laughing.
“So I’m finding myself with just a little more time on my hands,” Sandy said. “I feel with this new season, I don’t know what it’s going to look like but I’m ready to step into it.”

Return next Saturday for the next installment, when she tells whom she listens to, who she believes is the female recording artist of “our generation,” and her thoughts on Christian music.
