PHOENIX, Ariz. (WordNews.org) May 23, 2012 – The state of Arizona took a stand for the unborn and officially defunded Planned Parenthood this month.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer was present at a Campaign for Life rally held in Phoenix the first week of May. While there, she surprised those attending by publicly signing the state bill to defund the abortion-supporting organization.

“This victory comes as a result [of spending] the last few months working closely with pro-life legislators and the teams at Alliance Defense Fund, the Center for Arizona Policy, and Arizona Right to Life to pass this legislation,” says Billy Valentine, director of policy and programs at the Susan B. Anthony List organization.

The Susan B. Anthony List (SBA), an agency dedicated to the cause of preserving the lives of unborn children, seeks to elect government officials who will enact pro-life policies. SBA’s website records states that have taken stands against abortion and follows the anti-abortion bills as they await signing.

Arizona now joins eight other states in cutting off funding to Planned Parenthood. This action will not directly prevent abortions from happening, but by disallowing public funds from being syphoned to the organization, Arizona has made a public stand against abortion.

Encouraged by this action, pro-lifers are newly inspired to take action to defund the organization in other states.

“We simply cannot – and will not – stop working to protect the conscience of taxpayers and, most importantly, save the lives of precious unborn children,” says Valentine.
