cornersofthefieldCOLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO (WordNews.org) May 3, 2013 — A campaign is underway to raise funds so thousands of underprivileged children can attend a Christian camp this summer.

Christian Camp and Conference Association (CCCA) has launched the national initiative, seeking to raise what it calls “campership” dollars for local camps across the U.S. so children can have “the best week of their lives in a beautiful, natural setting.”

“Imagine the impact if every kid could go to camp regardless of their ability to pay,” said Gregg Hunter, CCCA President and CEO. “Imagine if kids struggling with their purpose, longing to be loved, faced with huge peer pressure or thoughts of self-injury could experience, in a beautiful place, the love of a God who has a plan for their lives.”

CCCA says $125 will send a kid to camp.

Corners of the Field seeks to raise funds to provide member camps funds for scholarships. Inspired by a verse in Leviticus in which farmers are commanded to leave the “corners of the field” for the poor to be fed, CCCA believes that the camp experience uniquely ministers, both physically and spiritually.

In conjunction with a national awareness-building effort called The Power of Camp, CCCA is educating parents and the public about the significant benefits children receive from a week at camp, including time to decompress and consider their future, experience love and acceptance from positive adult role models and experience adventure and have fun in a safe and caring environment.

According to CCCA:

·       Kids spend 3.5 minutes in meaningful conversation with their parents each week.

·         Kids 8-18 spend 7.5 hours a day using entertainment media.

·         Children play outside four minutes a day.
