ARLINGTON, Va. (WordNews.org) Sept. 11, 2011 — A pro-life group is promoting a program to encourage college students not to have abortions.
It’s called the “Pregnant on Campus Initiative” and the Students For Life of America says the initiative is in response to a statistic that more than 46 percent of abortions in America are performed on college-aged women.
The student group said many students feel forced to choose between continuing their education and raising their child. And colleges aren’t providing the resources students need to support pregnant and parenting students, the group said.
Students for Life is challenging pro-life groups to address this issue on campuses in their area by providing resources for pregnant or parenting students.
“Whether the project involves creating a campus support group or installing diaper decks in bathrooms, establishing an assistance fund for pregnant and parenting students, or securing affordable housing on campus, our goal is to increase the amount of pregnancy-friendly resources on college campuses in order to eliminate the pressure to discontinue school from pregnant and parenting students,” the group said.
