Statement of Faith

From the National Association of Evangelicals

Word News’ board members and staffers sign off their support of the following:

  • We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that it has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. (II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:19-21)
  • We believe that there is only one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit: one in substance and equal in every divine perfection. (Mark 12:29; I Corinthians 8:6)
  • We believe in God the Father, eternally existent, infinite, Sovereign of the universe; that He only is God, holy in nature and purpose, omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent and immutable; that He only is the source of holiness, justice, wisdom, love, goodness, and truth. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from the penalty of sin and death all that come to Him through Jesus Christ. (Psalm 147:5; Malachi 2:10)
  • We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. (John 1:1-14; John 14:3; Luke 1:35; Acts 7:55; I Corinthians 15:3-4; II Corinthians 5:21)
  • We believe in the personality, deity, and work of the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Godhead, who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ. He is our abiding helper, teacher, guide, comforter, and the guarantee of our salvation. (John 6:63; 14:16-17; 15:26; 16:8-15)
  • We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ is absolutely essential. We believe that faith in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ is the only cognition of salvation from sin, and that this salvation is wholly by the grace of God. This saving faith consists of a sincere turning from sin and self-will – repentance — and the acceptance of, reliance upon, and verbal profession of Jesus Christ as personal Savior, Risen Lord and Coming King. (Genesis 1-2; John 1:3, 3:16; 10:28-29; Colossians 1:16)
