CASSELBERRY, Fla. (WordNews.org) Jan. 20, 2012 -– Patrick Morley remembers the rise of the Promise Keepers movement.
At the same times, books like Steve Farrar’s “Point Man” were seeking to show “how a man can lead his family.”
“This was a real heady thing that went on in the 90s,” Morley told WordNews.org, “with these stadium things that peaked in 1997.”
Promise Keepers drew tens of thousands of men to stadiums across the country.
Morley said something else was happening at the same time that wasn’t drawing headlines.
“The whole time all through this period of time there have been pockets of men who are just faithfully meeting, quietly meeting in cubicles and conference rooms and private homes doing these small group Bible studies,” Morley said. “The emphasis of the 200s has been moving from stadiums back into the quiet quarters of the church and we see discipleship.”
Morley said what God has put on his heart to minister to this generation of men has been confirmed by many others.
“When anyone thinks they have a unique message from God, they probably don’t,” he said. “When God is getting read to speak, He usually put that into the hearts and minds of thousands, maybe tens of thousands of His children. And so it’s been quite an encouragement to us that not only are we feeling this deep calling to men’s discipleship, but we see church leaders everywhere sensing God calling them to discipleship. So we really feel God is on the move. We feel that God is on the move.”
