MOBILE, Ala. (WordNews.org) March 6, 2012 – Mark Harris, the lead singer/songwriter for 4Him, says as his latest solo project came together, a theme began to emerge.
“I think it would be the word transparency,” said Harris. “I think it’s a very transparent album.”
His third solo album, “Stronger in the Broken Places,” is in many ways autobiographical.
“There isn’t one song on this album that I can’t look at and say, ‘My life is right in that.’ It’s like I look at the album and I know good and well in a song like ‘Fearless’ I’m convicted by what that song says, because I’ve been the guy that’s been like a willow in the wind.”
At 49, Harris said he’s come to a place where he’s OK with who he is.
“It’s like self-awareness, where you get to the point where you look around and go, ‘OK, I’m fine God with what you’ve created me to be and created me to do. I don’t have a problem with where you placed me.”
Like an athlete who becomes comfortable with the position he’s been assigned.
“I don’t mind being the catcher,” Harris said. “I thought one day I could throw a curve but that’s not what God made me to be. He made me to be a catcher. I’m fine with whatever role I have to play–as an artist that writes Christian songs. Just as long as it’s what God called me to be.”
And as far as the album is concerned, Harris said he’s not worried about its success.
“I don’t have a problem saying or believing in this project or album, that God has great plans for it,” he said. “At the same time, I don’t know what that success looks like and I’m not worried about the terms of success. I just want it to have the significance it should have in the lives of people. I want to know that everyone who needs to hear the message in the songs have access to it.”
Harris said he’s believed in every project he’s been a part of.
“But I guess with this particular collection, I just feel there’s a real uniqueness in how it all came together from this perspective,” he said. “ look and go, ‘OK, I get that.’”
