No. 1 movie ‘The Vow’ now No. 1 on Times best-seller list

NASHVILLE (WordNews.org) Feb. 17, 2012  — The No. 1 movie, “The Vow,” is now the No. 1 book on The New York Times’ best-seller list.

The true story of Kim and Krickitt Carpenter’s love before and after a tragic car accident sits atop the Times’ heralded list in its first week of re-release.

It is B&H Publishing Group’s fourth film-related faith-based book that’s made the best-seller’s list. The others are: “The Resolution for Men,” “The Resolution for Women” and “The Love Dare.”

“The phenomenal success of these books — each dealing with the importance of faith and commitment in the family — shows the great hunger for encouraging and inspiring messages today,” said Selma Wilson, B&H Publishing Group president. “The Carpenters, Alex and Stephen Kendrick and Priscilla Shirer are sharing needed and wanted truth and doing so in a way that encourages and engages readers.”

“The Vow” tells the story of events from the Carpenters’ lives in the 1990s when the pair met, fell in love and married. Ten weeks later, they survived a car accident. But when Krickitt woke up, she didn’t remember Kim. The accident claimed 18 months of memories.

It was Kim’s commitment to his marriage and Kirckitt’s strong Christian faith that brought them through. The book was released in 2000 and re-released on Feb. 10 with an additional chapter and photos updating the Carpenter story.

The movie took in more than $40 million in its opening weekend. Plugged In notes that the movie takes liberties with the truth, such as having the couple live together before their “quickie” marriage. And there’s no reference to faith or prayer in the film, Plugged In reports.

“Krickitt and I feel very blessed that our story might give hope to others facing difficult circumstances,” Kim Carpenter said, “and inspire them to stick together for better or worse, in sickness and in health.”
