LANSDOWNE, Va. (WordNews.org) April 8, 2012 — For the first time in 34 years, Chuck Colson will not be ministering to inmates on Easter.
But Colson, the founder of Prison Fellowship and the Colson Center for Christian Worldview, has shown some promising signs of recovery following surgery on April 1, officials at the ministry said.
Surgeons removed a pool of clotted blood on the surface of Colson’s brain, which was discovered when he fell ill during a speaking engagement. He can now hear and process information and execute commands given to him. His attending physician said those were promising signs.
His daughter Emily said her father recently gave his doctors a “thumbs up” sign. Colson continues to be listed in critical condition, however.
“We are so thankful for the many friends from around the world,” said Colson’s wife, Patty. “We are seeing hopeful signs with Chuck. We fully trust in our Lord.”
Despite Colson’s inability to spend Easter in prison ministering to inmates, Prison Fellowship is moving forward with events scheduled in New York and California.
