VENTURA, Calif. (WordNews.org) July 4, 2012 — Americans say the tough economy is impacting the way they give to charities, according to the latest Barna Group poll.
According to the survey, 34 percent of adults say they have been impacted by the current economic conditions in a “major way.” That’s up from 28 percent a year ago.
Looking forward, half of those surveyed said they believed the poor economy is here for at least three years.
Forty-one percent of those surveyed say they have reduced their giving to nonprofits. That’s up from 39 percent in April 2011 but down from a high of 48 percent in January 2010. Thirty-four percent of those surveyed said they reduced their giving to church, a new high. That’s up from 30 percent in April 2011.
