WASHINGTON, D.C. (WordNews.org) Jan. 3, 2013 – There are 2.2 billion Christians in the world, according to the latest Pew study.
That’s 32 percent of the world’s population. There are 1.6 million Muslims (23 percent of the world’s population; 1 billion Hindus (15 percent of the world’s population), 500 million Buddhists (7 percent) and 14 million Jews (0.2 percent).
The Pew Research Center’s Forum on Religion & Public Life said more than eight-in-10 people worldwide identify with a religious group, or 5.8 billion people of the 6.9 billion on the globe. There are 1.1 billion people globally not affiliated with any religion, making this group the third largest grouping.
Pew analyzed more than 2,500 censuses, surveys and population registers.
