PHILADELPHIA (WordNews.org) May 14, 2013 — Pro-life groups and other ministries quickly responded to news that abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell has been convicted of murdering three babies that were born alive in his abortion clinic dubbed “the house of horrors.” Gosnell was also convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the 2009 drug-overdose of Karnamaya Mongar.
“This is the face of abortion,” said Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel. “What happens in Gosnell’s clinic is not an unusual situation. It happens around the country. The fact is that this is human life. When we sacrifice human life in the womb under personal choice, personal gratification, or personal decisions, we ultimately cheapen the very image of God and the dignity of all humanity.”
Staver said he prays the verdict”will awaken Americans to the evils of abortion, and a culture of life will return to America.”
“We rejoice that justice has been served in the verdicts finding abortionist Kermitt Gosnell guilty of three counts of first-degree murder,” said Thomas Glessner, president of the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates. “However, abortion continues to tear our nation apart. America must come to grips with this evil or lose its soul.”
Glessner said the country still doesn’t see a distinction between killing a baby in utero or moments after delivery. It’s a question that needs to be addressed.
“Our fellow countrymen must ask, ‘What is the difference between snipping the spine and killing a baby after she is born and snipping the spine and killing a baby while she is still in the womb?’ The first is now recognized [as] first degree murder,” he said. “The second is called–by some–‘safe and legal abortion.'”
Life News reports that one baby was born so big, Gosnell joked, “this baby is big enough to walk around with me or walk me to the bus stop.”
Dr. Alveda King, director of African American Outreach for Gospel of Life Ministries, said she hoped the verdict would “spark justice for more women and babies across America.” She said Gosnell “was not the only abortionist who killed mothers and their born babies, he was just the one who got caught. Now we have to turn our attention to charging, trying and convicting others like him.”
King is joining Star Parker of CURE along with Day Gardner of the National Black Prolife Union and other black prolife leaders for a press conference in Washington, D.C. At that press conference, King will ask, “Is there a Gosnell in your community?”
