Egg on Their Face? Ministry Launches Boycott Effort Against Cadbury Makers Over Crass Commercial

TUPELO, Miss. (WordNews.org) Jan. 21, 2021 — The makers of the gooey sweet Cadbury Crème Egg popular during Easter season laid an egg with an upcoming advertising campaign, according to one ministry that criticized a crass commercial.

The American Family Association issued an action alert urging its members to “say NO to Cadbury now!

The petition reads: “I’m not buying into your social agenda to push homosexuality. Your latest ad offends me and many other Christians who celebrate Easter with reverence and respect. I won’t be buying your products either. I’m taking Cadbury Crème Eggs off my shopping list. Please stick to making chocolates and candies, not political and social statements.”

AFA said the ad, found on Cadbury Ireland’s Twitter feed, has had backlash, with comments from Christians and non-Christians alike calling the ad everything from “disgusting” and “very disappointing” to “yech” and “gross.”

The ad has two men dancing hand-in-hand and then sharing an egg ala Disney’s “Lady and the Tramp” spaghetti scene. You can see the ad here but wanting it is offensive.

“This tells us just how lost our world is,” said Glenn Dulaney (@RevDulaney). “Sin is Rampant and the world is slave to it. Pray God will awaken them to their slavery and that they will allow His love and grace to redeem them.”

Kathleen Wilson tweeted: “Disgusting and offensive. Please remove it! I love Cadbury – especially when we visited Ireland – but I will boycott the company if this is not taken down.”

It also had its supporters, like “Sati” who tweeted: “We need more commercials with lgbt displays of affection. Best way to weed out homophobe off a network.”

“Sally” tweeted, “I would find this a stupid ad even if it was a man and woman. Not great marketing Cadbury.”

The ad is part of a longer commercial “Crème Egg Golden Goobilee,” showing ways to eat a Cadbury Crème Egg. It will be part of its big promotion before Easter.

“If U.S. sales are strong, Cadbury just bring this ad to American televisions for your children to see,” said Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association. “Taking a stand now will send a strong signal that their eggs are cracked up.”
