FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (WordNews.org) Jan. 6, 2022 – A new report from a pro-life group highlighted the relationship Christian colleges have with the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood.

At one point in 2021 one in eight Christian colleges, or 103 schools, had some relationship with Planned Parenthood. That number dropped to 69 schools, or one in 11 institutions, by the time the report was published as schools were informed of their infractions.

In introducing the report, Students for Life of America’s Institute for Pro-Life Advancement, noted that according to Planned Parenthood’s annual it aborted 354,871 pre-born children last year.

Students for Life of America’s Institute for Pro-Life Advancement noted that it investigated all 784 colleges and universities affiliated with Christian churches in the United States, including Catholic and Protestant schools, and found at the start of the study 103, one in eight Christian schools, had some relationship with Planned Parenthood.

The organizations involved in the study contacted each of those schools and made them aware of the infractions, as the report describes it. Each school was emailed twice and called once. As a result of these efforts, dozens of schools “rectified the content on their websites, removing relationships with and promotions of Planned Parenthood.”

The report’s authors said the goal was to raise public awareness of those Christian schools that continue to maintain relationships with the abortion provider and to “encourage infracting schools to restore their Christian values by cutting ties with the abortion giant.

In explaining why it was important to highlight the relationship, Kristan Hawkins, SFLA president, said the ties the schools have the the abortion provider are “demonstrably dangerous and at odds with Biblical values.”

Infractions included:

  • Promoting Planned Parenthood as an active internship opportunity for which students may receive credit;
  • Promoting Planned Parenthood as a student resource;
  • Advertising Planned Parenthood events on campus or on the school website;
  • Promoting volunteer opportunities at Planned Parenthood;
  • Planned Parenthood partnering with the school on at least one event;
  • Promoting Planned Parenthood as a future career opportunity.

School were given grades of A+ to F based on infractions. School with four or more infractions received an F and were considered to be in a “committed relationship” with the abortion provider. The 69 schools that continue to have some relationship with Planned Parenthood combined to have 175 infractions.

Schools with the strongest ties to Planned Parenthood were Methodist (21), Presbyterian (15) and Lutheran (14). The schools receiving F grades were: Augsburg University (MN), Lutheran; Central College (IA), Reformed; Duke University (NC), United Methodist; Elizabeth College (PA), Church of the Brethren; Emory University (GA), Methodist Episcopal; Hamline University (MN), Presbyterian; Moravian College (PA), Moravian; Pacific Lutheran University (WA), Lutheran; St. Michael’s College (VT), Catholic; St. Olaf College (MN), Lutheran; Lafayette College (PA), Presbyterian; Muhlenberg College (PA), Lutheran; Ohio Wesleyan (OH), United Methodist.
