WASHINGTON, D.C. (WordNews.org) Aug. 12, 2012 – More than 40 college students completed their cross-country walks on Saturday here, each walking more than 1,000 miles to oppose abortion.
The students began their journey on May 19 from four starting points – San Francisco, San Jose, Los Angeles and Seattle. They passed through 40 states, thousands of small towns and cities and together they conclude that, based on the support they received during their walk, Americans overwhelmingly identify themselves as pro-life.

“The mainstream media may tell you different, but we can say with authority and through actual experience at the grass-roots level, that America is truly a pro-life country,” said  Jim Nolan, national director of Crossroads Pro-Life, the organizer of the walks since 1995. “The reality is that the Obama Administration is sadly out of touch with the values of mainstream America. We know because what we experience firsthand from the hundreds of thousands of people we meet along the way is in stark contrast to the strident stances now coming from the leadership in Washington, D.C.”

Pro-life walkers completed their walk yesterday in Washington, D.C.

The students, wearing shirts that read PRO-LIFE, said they received support from many people throughout the journey.
“With the recent attacks by the Obama administration on religious liberty and conscience rights of pro-life Americans, the witness of these young people is needed more now than ever” said Nolan. “The dignity and value of human life is under unprecedented assault in our country — we need to take a stand and let our elected representatives [know]  that America is a pro-life country. The polls show what we’ve been seeing for many years — the majority of Americans are pro-life and the ultra-left in our country is out of touch.”
Each participant took time during the journey to speak at churches and youth groups as well as conduct radio and newspaper interviews.
The groups also held peaceful, prayerful protests and conducted sidewalk counseling at abortion clinics in the cities they traveled through.
This summer, Crossroads is also sponsoring walks across Canada, Ireland  and Spain.
