life!CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wisconsin (WordNews.org) Feb. 19, 2013 – Planned Parenthood is closing four clinics in Wisconsin as a result of budget cuts, the Chippewa Herald is reporting.
Teri Huyck, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Wisconsin, told the Herald the abortion provider need state funding to keep its offices open, but those fund were cut in the state’s most recent budget.
Huyck told the Herald that the news of the closures is “terribly unfortunate for the women, it’s particularly difficult on them.”
But pro-life groups welcomed the announcement.
“Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin is the state’s largest abortion provider and, nationally, refers over 90 percent of the pregnant women it sees to abortion clinics,” said Barbara Lyons, executive director of Wisconsin Right to Life. “The closure of four feeders to Planned Parenthood’s three Wisconsin abortion clinics is excellent news.”
Lyons said Planned Parenthood in Wisconsin did not refer even one person for adoption or prenatal care, according to the abortion provider’s annual report.
Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin performed 4,827 Wisconsin abortions in 2010 (62 percent of all abortions).
The Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and its affiliates received more than $542 million in state and federal taxpayer dollars in 2011. In addition, PPFA has mandated that all of its affiliates perform abortions by 2013, according to Wisconsin Right to Life.
