Pro-Lifers to March to HHS to Protest Confirmation of Nominee Becerra, Observe 48th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

WASHINGTON (WordNews.org) Jan. 16, 2021 — Protests are planned at both the U.S. Supreme Court and the Department Health and Human Services on Jan. 22 to mark the 48th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

The Roe v. Wade decision, which legalized abortion in all 50 states, has resulted in the deaths of 63 million American children through abortion violence, organizers of the protests said.

The protests are being organized by the Stanton Public Policy Center, a women’s advocacy and educational group focused on issues of human rights and justice. It is affiliated with Stanton Healthcare, which has life-affirming women’s health clinics in America and internationally.

Calling their protest the Purple Sash Revolution, the group will head to the Supreme Court at noon to protest Roe v. Wade, a decision it says “has resulted in the deaths of 63 million American children through abortion violence.”

At 2:30 p.m. the group will head to the Department of Health and Human Services to voice opposition to President-elect Joe Biden’s nominee for HHS Secretary, Xavier Becerra. The selection of Becerra has been described as a “cultural war flashpoint.”

Becerra, California’s attorney general, has been praised by the head of the Catholic Health Association for his efforts to fight underserved communities. Yet pro-life groups have called him “an abortion activist plain and simple,” pointing to NARAL Pro-Choice America’s 100 percent rating for his support of abortion during his 25 years in Congress. First Things said Biden’s pick demonstrated his “commitment to force extreme, oppressive abortion policy on the American public” and called Becerra “a tool of the abortion industry.”

“While we are deeply saddened the ‘March for Life’ will not be happening this year, it is critical the pro-life community have a peaceful and prayerful witness at the Supreme Court calling for the end of abortion violence in America,” said Brandi Swindell, founder and CEO of the Stanton Public Policy Center. “As we gather on the Roe v. Wade Memorial, we will be embracing the powerful words of civil rights activist and feminist Sojourner Truth when she stated, ‘Truth is powerful and it prevails.'”

Swindell added: “We are peacefully coming together to stand for human rights and equality as we make clear, we will never to be silent on the issue of abortion violence. Like Sojourner, we believe truth will prevail over the injustice of abortion.”

“On the Roe v. Wade Memorial, we are mindful it is also the week America celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day,” said Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Chief Strategy Officer for Stanton Public Center. “We draw from Dr. King’s witness of peaceful public engagement in ending the horror of segregation and institutional racism as an example for us to follow in ending the injustice of abortion violence. As the most pro-abortion President and Congress take power in Washington, D.C., the pro-life community will peacefully gather on the streets of our nation’s capital being a voice for the voiceless and crying out for equality.”
