GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WorfdNews.org) March 5, 2012 — The hit MTV show “16 and Pregnant” has sparked a great deal of conversation since it began airing in June of 2009. Some love the show and some hate it, but it is this type of buzz that former stars of the show Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra hope will give them a platform to help others. That is why they are partnering with Bethany Christian Services, the nation’s leading adoption agency.
“We’ve seen firsthand the value in working with a pregnancy counselor,” said Baltierra. “We received tremendous support from Dawn at Bethany during our pregnancy, and we want to make sure others in similar situations know what resources are available to them.”
The couple will launch its partnership with Bethany via a Facebook chat at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7. The chat will be hosted in a Facebook group named “Chat with Catelynn and Tyle
The story does not begin here however. Even before Catelynn and Tyler started appearing on “16 and Pregnant” they sought out counsel on how to handle their unplanned pregnancy. They came to Bethany and received the help they were seeking.
“Placing our daughter Carly for adoption was the hardest thing we will ever do,” said Baltierra, “but as parents we made the sacrifice of not raising her and being with her all the time to only better her life by giving her to a Christian family who has longed and waited for a child of their own.”
Bethany Christian Services has a long history of helping couples like Catelynn and Tyler. For more than 65 years, Bethany has helped more than 71,000 women with their unplanned pregnancies.
Both sides hope that this partnership will help influence teenage mothers to seek sound advice throughout their pregnancy.
